Spy

You made me meet you each morning,

‘I need a running friend’ you lied,

No coincidence the route you chose

Ran passed our teacher’s house.

Two young spies, poorly disguised

As ‘keeping fit’ before sunrise,

So you could catch a secret glimpse

And nurse it in your mind.

I, the unwitting companion

to your teenage fantasy,

Was so relieved when you tired of him

I could finally lie in.

“Brief: 366/2020 project, prompt ‘Spy’

“Insight: for Carolyn, not to mention the valentines card incident and other trouble I let you get me in.
